we're talking about stuff we like
They refer to his unique sound as “The MaRLo sound” because he pulls inspiration for his music from so many places. With inspirations like Aphex Twin and The Prodigy, MaRLo has been able to create some of the best lead sounds and he was signed to Armin Van Buuren’s Armada Music. He has been one of the breakout artists at Armada, which helped him gain his following from both local and worldwide music fans. His success and high energy performances make him a must see for at the events he performs at worldwide.
After completing a US tour consisting of premiere club and concert venues, MaRLo made his way back to Australia for what would be considered his biggest local tour yet.
ALTITUDE was started by the DJ in his early days as a regular club night, but has now turned into the biggest buzz in Australian EDM. The ALTITUDE Tour hit some of the largest premiere venues in the country with the DJ playing extended sets.
Just after the completion of the first round of ALTITUDE, we got to speak with MaRLo about his experiences:
We’ve had friends from Melbourne go to your Altitude concert and they said it was insane!!! How do you feel this Altitude tour will represent where you stand as an artist?
MaRLo: Great! I'm glad they had a good time, I did too! I think Altitude really gave me an opportunity to really show what the MaRLo sound is all about, I had four hours to showcase my sound from the past, present and future and also included my tech energy harder faster sound at the end of the set. I had some amazing guests joining me on the tour too, with Ruben De Ronde on the warm up sets and Emma Hewitt, Christina Novelli, Chloe, Emma Chatt and Piotr all offering a live performance element to the show.
What was it like working and recording with Chloe on “You And Me,” your latest single?
MaRLo: Chloe is a good friend of mine, I always love working with people I know well - I'm super proud of Chloe, she has grown so much as an artist from when I first met her, and I know she has a very bright future ahead of her. It's been amazing to see how well it's being received.
This song took a much more radio-friendly direction than your recent dark and heavy trance sound. What inspired the switch-up?
MaRLo: It's a switch up from my last single "Darkside" but it's not that different from some of my other previous songs... almost every song I release is different to each other, it's that freedom to do what I want as a producer that keeps things interesting for me in the studio. For me... I have different emotions from day to day, so why make the same sounding music all the time? Just wait till you hear the next one called "Join Us Now" (https://WAO138077.lnk.to/JUNMA) - It's one of the hardest tracks I've made ;)
Chloe is performing live with musicians on the Altitude tour which is something rare for electronic producers (to have live musicians), which we feel will only add to the full Altitude experience. Do you think that for future tours you will continue to bring in more live vocalists and musicians?
MaRLo: Yeah, I feel like having a LIVE element to my shows is a key part of what Altitude is all about. I also feel like the vocalists really deserve the spotlight too, they are as much a part of the tracks they feature on as the producer.
